They Thought They Got Away

Hamilton Police arrested a pair of thieves after they thought they thwarted the investigation. A Hamilton man and woman were located within an hour and a half at a nearby residence. Both parties are scheduled to appear in court on May 9, 2019.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, shortly before noon, Hamilton Police responded to a call for a theft that had just occurred at LCBO, 1149 Barton Street East. The officers were provided with the details. While being accompanied by a female, a male was observed selecting a bottle of alcohol from a shelf, walking through the store to a secluded area where he concealed it in his clothing. The parties were approached by staff but continued to exit the store making no attempt to pay for the merchandise.

Through investigation, police were able to identify an apartment building in the area as a possible hiding spot for the suspects. The location was equipped with video surveillance which police reviewed. Two people matching the suspects’ descriptions were captured on camera. Police established a unit within the building to check for the suspects.

A 23-year-old male and 27-year-old female, both from Hamilton were found in the unit. They were arrested and taken into police custody. Police learned the male party was currently bound by a probation order. He was informed of the additional charges in relation to the court-ordered conditions. They were both released and are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, May 9, 2019, to answer to the charges.

The merchandise was recovered.
