Two Loaded Handguns Seized in Separate Investigations

During the course of investigating two males on Sunday, Hamilton Police seized handguns, ammunition and illicit drugs. Both men were held for bail hearings.

On Sunday, May 17, 2020, shortly before 3:00 p.m., Hamilton Police became involved in an investigation in the area of Barton Street East and Strathearne Avenue. The investigation led them to a residence in that area which was occupied by several people. Through continued investigation, police identified a male inside the residence who was in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun, crack cocaine and a large amount of cash.

The male was arrested and taken into police custody where it was confirmed he was bound by an out of jurisdiction court order. The matter was addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Monday, May 18, 2020, in the form of a bail hearing.

Later Sunday evening, shortly after 10:30 p.m., Hamilton Police officers were involved in an investigation in the area of Weir Street North and Britannia Avenue. At that time, they encountered a male who was not related to the original incident. While attempting to speak with the male his actions became suspicious and he attempted to flee but was quickly secured. Through continued investigation, police found him to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, illicit drugs and cash.

The male was taken into police custody where it was confirmed he was bound by a court order. He was held for a bail hearing and the matter was addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Monday, May 18, 2020.
