Victim Services Support
- Date modified:
The earlier you recognize signs of abuse or obsessiveness, the better. Don't wait to seek help. Intimate partner violence is not always obvious to those around you, as abusers can usually control their behaviour in public and leave marks in less visible areas of the body.

Our volunteers have a very important role in providing emotional support for victims of crime and trauma. Volunteers are not professional counsellors or therapists. They are community minded citizens who are excellent listeners and are both compassionate and empathetic. Volunteers receive an extensive training program followed by ongoing professional development training.
Victim Services Branch provides 24-hour emotional support and practical assistance to individuals victimized by crime or tragic circumstance. Staff and specially trained volunteers provide practical assistance, emotional support and referrals for additional community resources.

A victim impact statement is a written statement from a victim that describes the physical or emotional harm, property damage or economic loss which the victim of an offence has suffered. The Court must take the statement into account when an offender is sentenced.
The victim impact statement gives victims of crime a voice in the criminal justice system. It allows victims to take part in the sentencing of the offender by explaining to the Court and the offender, in their own words, how the crime has affected them.
