How does the Hamilton Police Service decide when to disclose personal information?

Release of personal information in a media release is done in compliance with Ont Reg 265/98, which governs the disclosure of personal information. 

When can Hamilton Police Service post a photo of a missing person?

A picture of a missing person can only be released with permission from an immediate family member or authorized caregiver. Once the missing person has been located, Hamilton Police removes their image from social media posts and the website.

How do I find updates to a media release?

Case numbers are posted with all media releases. If you are interested in finding more information about a particular case, please contact media relations at [email protected] and cite the case number. Media relations will provide the information or direct you to our Freedom of Information coordinator.

What are media allowed to access at a crime scene?

Media are welcome to attend a crime scene. Hamilton Police Service will designate an area for media and provide updates on the incident through a media relations officer or designate.
