On November 5, 2023, at approximately 5:46 p.m., police and emergency medical services received a 911 call from an apartment on Champlain Avenue reporting an infant in medical distress.
Upon arrival, first responders located four-month-old Annaleigh Storey unresponsive. She was transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.
An autopsy was conducted and preliminary findings raised the possibility the death may be suspicious.
At the time of the incident, Annaleigh was being cared for by her mother’s boyfriend. After speaking with investigators, he was released unconditionally while the investigation continued.
Since Annaleigh’s death, detectives have conducted numerous interviews with family members and executed several search warrants.
Hamilton Police recently received the full autopsy report, which provided further details and confirmed Annaleigh did not die from natural causes. With this new information, investigators determined criminal charges would be laid.
On Thursday, May 1, 2025, 23-year-old Damion Warren-Baker was arrested in Hamilton. He has been charged with manslaughter and is scheduled to appear in court on May 2.
