Search Efforts Continue for Missing Person John Edwards

Hamilton Police remain focused on locating a 62-year-old vulnerable male, John Edwards, who was last seen on June 11, 2025. Confirmed surveillance places him walking southbound on Millgrove Side Road near Cumminsville Drive at approximately 4:08 p.m.

Yesterday, a search manager along with officers conducted a ground search in the area surrounding Millgrove United Church until dusk.  Unfortunately, no new evidence was located. The terrain remains particularly difficult — with large properties, dense brush, and marshy areas that are largely inaccessible by foot without specialized equipment.

In light of these challenges, police will re-establish a command post today at Millgrove United Church to support ongoing search operations. A coordinated effort will continue today with assistance from a Search Manager.

Today’s search efforts include:

  • Deployment of drones (RPAS) for aerial surveillance
  • ATV units to cover rough terrain
  • Mounted Patrol to assist with hard-to-reach wooded areas
  • Marine Unit support, primarily for access to specialized gear for navigating marshlands

Police are also actively investigating two very recent community tips reporting someone resembling the missing individual walking in the Upper Paradise area on Hamilton and Mohawk Road West and Upper horning. Both sightings are under review and being followed up by investigators.

To date, the extensive search efforts have included:

  • Immediate deployment of search teams in Dundas and Flamborough (2 command  posts)
  • Public Order Unit and Ground Search and Rescue personnel
  • FLIR thermal imaging and aerial support
  • Patrols by foot, bike, and mounted officers, canine, special constables, cadets and now Marine Unit
  • Review of surveillance footage and video canvassing
  • Investigation of numerous tips, including an unconfirmed sighting in Milton

Key Facts:

  • Edwards  is believed to be without a phone, ID, or money
  • His travel path has been unpredictable and difficult to trace
  • He is considered cognitively vulnerable, and recent extreme heat adds to concerns for his safety
  • There is currently no indication of foul play, but the situation remains urgent and deeply concerning

Hamilton Police continue to ask residents—particularly in rural Flamborough, Dundas and West Mountain areas—to check their properties, outbuildings, and trail cameras. Anyone with information or possible sightings is urged to contact the Missing Person Unit at 905-540-8549 or Division 30 Criminal Investigations Branch at 905-546-3886 immediately.  We sincerely thank the community for their continued support, vigilance, and the tips shared so far. Your efforts remain vital in helping us bring this vulnerable man home safely
