On December 10, 2024, family members of Shalini Singh reported her missing to the Hamilton Police Service when they had not heard from her for several days.
Since February 24, 2025, the Hamilton Police Service have been systematically searching the Glanbrook Landfill Site for the remains of Shalini Singh and other evidence of her disappearance.
On May 21, 2025, partial human remains were located within this search area. Subsequent DNA analysis determined that these remains were those of Shalini Singh. Jeffery Smith, Shalini’s common-law boyfriend, was arrested and charged on June 20, 2025 with Second Degree Murder and Indignity to Human Remains.
On Friday June 27, 2025, the Hamilton Police Service completed the search of the identified area and the search efforts at the landfill have now been concluded. No further human remains have been located by police.
At this time, the Hamilton Police Service has no information to support a continued search of the landfill site and no information to indicate any other locations to search. The Hamilton Police Service will initiate further searches should new information become available.
