Hamilton Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, July 11, 2025, shortly before 5:30 p.m. in the area of King Street between James Street and MacNab Street in downtown Hamilton.
A female victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. A male victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries resulting from a gunshot wound.
The suspect fled the area and remains outstanding. A large police presence will remain in place for several hours as officers secure the scene, collect evidence, and work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Members of the Emergency Response Unit are actively clearing Jackson Square as part of the investigation.
To ensure public safety and support the ongoing investigation, road closures and traffic diversions are currently in effect around King Street, James Street, and MacNab Street. Both pedestrian and vehicle access in the surrounding area is restricted. The public is asked to avoid the area until further notice. We thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and may have witnessed anything or possess information relevant to the case. Surveillance footage, dash camera video, and eyewitness accounts could play a vital role in advancing the investigation.
