Investigation Ongoing in Rymal Road Collision

Hamilton Police continue to investigate a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred on June 22, 2025, at the intersection of Rymal Road East and Fletcher Road.

A Mazda, travelling westbound on Rymal Road East, attempted to turn south onto Fletcher Road when it was struck by a Ford F-150. The F-150, driven by a 16-year-old male from Hamilton, was reportedly travelling at a high rate of speed through the intersection.

The violent impact resulted in two occupants of the Mazda—neither wearing a seatbelt—being ejected from the vehicle. Both suffered serious, life-altering injuries, and one individual remains in hospital in stable condition. The driver of the Ford F-150 also sustained injuries and was transported to hospital.

Due to the severity of the incident, the Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was called in to lead the investigation. As a result, on July 17, 2025, the 16-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 was arrested and released on an undertaking. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

  • Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm (x2) – Criminal Code 320.13(2)
  • Stunt Driving – HTA 172(1)
  • Speeding: 135 km/h in a 60 km/h zone – HTA 128
  • Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm (x2) – HTA 130(2)

17-year-old driver of the Mazda (Hamilton):

  • Fail to Properly Wear Seatbelt – HTA 106(2)
  • Driving While Under Suspension – HTA 53(1)
  • G1 Licence Violation: Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver – HTA

31-year-old Owner of the Mazda (Hamilton):

  • Permit Novice Driver to Contravene Licence Conditions – HTA 32(11.1)
  • Make False Statement – CAIA
  • Permit Operation of Vehicle Without Insurance – CAIA
