Midnight Munchies Leads to Impaired Arrest

On July 21, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a Hamilton Police officer found more than just a late-night lineup at a local fast food drive-thru.

While waiting patiently for his turn to grab a much-needed bite after a long evening of duty, the officer noticed the car ahead of him wasn’t moving. With hunger mounting and curiosity piqued, he got out to investigate.

What he found was a driver passed out behind the wheel, unresponsive and showing no signs of waking up. After several attempts to rouse the individual — and a strong scent of alcohol in the air — the officer determined the driver was impaired. Once the driver finally woke up, they displayed clear signs of intoxication. The individual was arrested on scene and transported for breath testing, which resulted in readings of 101 and 96 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The driver was later released by way of Undertaking.

Hamilton Police would like to remind the public that impaired is impaired — whether you're cruising down the highway or coasting toward a combo meal. Plan ahead, arrange a safe ride, and keep our roads safe.
