Opioid Bust Percolates in Parking Lot

On Friday, July 18, 2025, members of the Hamilton Police High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) arrested a man in connection with suspected drug trafficking activity in the area of Fennell Avenue East.

Police observed suspicious behaviour involving two vehicles in a commercial parking lot. As a result of an investigation and continued surveillance, officers arrested 45-year-old Wayne Ireland, a resident of Hamilton, without incident.

A search of the accused and his vehicle revealed a quantity of prescription opioids, Canadian currency, and multiple cell phones. The following items were seized:

  • Hydromorphone capsules and pills
  • OxyContin pills
  • Canadian currency totaling over $2,500
  • Multiple mobile devices

Wayne Ireland of Hamilton, is charged with:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Opioids)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5000

Ireland was held for a bail hearing.
