Arrest Made During RIDE Program in East Hamilton

Hamilton Police have arrested a 15-year-old male in connection with a series of Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act violations that occurred during a RIDE Lane enforcement initiative early Thursday morning.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, officers were conducting a RIDE Lane vehicle checkpoint on Lawrence Road in the City of Hamilton. The RIDE program is part of ongoing efforts to promote road safety and enforce laws related to impaired and dangerous driving.

During the initiative, officers observed a black Honda Odyssey approach the checkpoint. Instead of stopping as directed, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed, narrowly avoiding officers on scene. Police followed the vehicle and observed the driver commit several additional traffic offences before the vehicle eventually came to a stop.

The driver, a 15-year-old male from Hamilton, was taken into custody without incident.

Through further investigation, officers determined that the accused was in breach of a court-ordered release condition requiring him to remain at his residence during overnight hours unless accompanied by his surety.

As a result of the incident, the youth now faces the following Criminal Code charges:

  • Dangerous Operation – CC Section 320.13(1)
  • Flight from Peace Officer – CC Section 320.17
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order – CC Section 145(5)(a)

The accused is expected to appear in court to answer to these charges.

Hamilton Police remain committed to ensuring public safety through proactive enforcement and community engagement. Anyone with further information related to this incident is asked to contact police or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
