From clerical and technical jobs to positions in management, the Hamilton Police Service has many challenging Civilian Career Opportunities, with top-notch salaries and benefit packages. We currently employ more than 360 civilian members – about 35 per cent of our workforce.
Most of our external Civilian vacancies are for part-time and temporary full-time opportunities. Part-time and temporary full-time members are paid a flat hourly rate, plus an additional 14 per cent in lieu of benefits and 4 per cent vacation pay on each pay.
External Civilian vacancies are posted on the City of Hamilton website at: http://www.hamilton.ca/CityServices/Careers under "Jobs Open to the Public – Current Job Postings" as they become available. All applications must be submitted through the City of Hamilton Careers Applicant Tracking System in order to be considered.
Once candidates are hired by the Police Service, they are eligible to apply for all internal Civilian vacancies within the Service.
Part-time staff are hired to provide vacation, maternity/parental leave, and/or other relief to full-time staff who are not at work. The majority of our employees work up to 12 hour rotating shifts in a 24 hours/day, 365 days/year essential services environment, including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Part-time staff are hired to a pool and assigned to positions as needed. All applicants must be prepared to work shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Positions are not suitable for students, and you cannot work full-time elsewhere and work for the Service.
