Hamilton Police have arrested one male after a stolen U-Haul truck crashed into a residence on Main Street East during the early morning hours.
On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at approximately 1:40 a.m., a Hamilton Police officer observed a U-Haul truck in the area of Main Street East and Glendale Avenue. Due to the time of day and the circumstances, the officer conducted a licence plate query, which revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Halton Region.
As patrol officers responded to the area, the occupant put the vehicle into motion, nearly striking an officer. During the incident, the U-Haul collided with three marked Hamilton Police cruisers before crashing into a nearby residence. The vehicle came to rest after striking the building's exterior fire escape staircase.
The driver, a 54-year-old male with no fixed address, was safely taken into custody and arrested. He was charged with the following offences:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Dangerous Operation
- Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Operation While Prohibited
The investigation is ongoing.
