Suspicious Death Under Investigation in Waterdown

Hamilton Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 54-year-old man who was found in Waterdown earlier this week.

On Monday, September 7, 2026, at approximately 6:22 p.m., the man was found unresponsive on the sidewalk near Dundas Street East and 1st Street. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Based on the circumstances known at the time, the death was not considered suspicious.

In the days that followed, investigators reviewed video footage, spoke with witnesses and received additional information, including findings from a post-mortem examination. As the investigation progressed, information emerged that raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

The death is now being investigated as suspicious and the Hamilton Police Homicide Unit has assumed carriage of the investigation. At this time, the death has not been classified as a homicide.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Dundas Street East between Spring Creek Drive and 1st Street from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on September 7 and may have witnessed anything that could assist the investigation.

Police are also asking residents, businesses and motorists in the area to review security, doorbell and dash camera footage from that timeframe. Investigators are particularly interested in any footage that captured activity along Dundas Street East or the surrounding area.
