What is Insurance Fraud?
- Insurance fraud involves any act with the intent to fraudulently obtain payment from an insurer.
- Insurance fraud involves claims with intent to defraud the insurance provider such as:
- Stages motor vehicle collisions
- False or exaggerated medical and/or dental claims
- False property claims
The Insurance Bureau of Canada reports that the cost to Canadians as a result of Insurance Fraud is estimated to be more than several billion dollars a year in insurance premiums, health care, emergency services and court costs.
