About HPS

Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigation Branch provides investigative support to Uniform Patrol, and is responsible for serious criminal offences, sudden deaths, complex missing persons and other incidents as assigned.

Each division has a Criminal Investigation Branch responsible for that area.  Two to three detectives per team work shifts to support the Uniform Patrol as required.   The teams are overseen by a Detective Sergeant within each division.

HPS History

In 1829, Sir Robert Peel established the Metropolitan Police Force in London, England, based at Scotland Yard.  These 1,000 constables were the world’s first police officers.  They were nicknamed ‘Bobbies’ or “Peelers” and were the direct forerunners of today’s modern policing.
