Declaration of Criminal Record

Self Declaration of a Criminal Record is a process whereby the Applicant declares their adult criminal convictions to the Police Service in accordance with CPIC policy requirements and federal laws.

Self Declaration should NOT include:

 (a)        Conviction for which a pardon has been received.

 (b)        Youth Convictions (YCJA).

 (c)        Absolute/Conditional Discharges.

 (d)        Offences where there were no convictions.

 (e)        Provincial/Municipal Offences.

 (f)        Charges dealt with outside of Canada.

Gangs & Weapons Enforcement Unit

The mandate of the Gangs & Weapons Enforcement Unit is the identification, arrest and dismantling of any gang, criminal organization, crime group or its members responsible for violent criminal activity within the community.  The unit is primarily focused on crimes of violence and illegal firearm offences.

Domestic Violence Unit

The Domestic Violence Unit networks and liaises with local shelters, community/government agencies, the Crown, Probation and Parole Services, Victim Witness Assistance Programs, local Children’s Aid Societies, and other local services and community representatives responsible for responding to issues relating to domestic violence occurrences.

The Unit acts as a liaison and advocate for Women’s Shelters.

Youth Services

The Youth Services division of the Hamilton Police Service is responsible for establishing, implementing and monitoring policies pertaining to youth crime. They also monitor the service’s response to youth crime to ensure consistency of dispositions.

The unit acts as a liaison with other agencies and other parts of the justice system regarding effective youth service delivery. They attend courses and seminars, read appropriate material and conduct research activities to develop expertise in youth crime.

Traffic Branch

The primary focus of the Traffic Branch is to improve traffic safety in the community through enforcement, education and community partnerships. Annually, it produces a comprehensive Traffic Safety Plan.

Traffic Branch officers consist of our Collision Reconstruction Unit; who primarily investigate near fatal or fatal collisions, our Centralized Breath Technician Unit; who provide specialized support to front line personnel in the investigation of alcohol and drug related driving offences, and our Tow Coordinator and Traffic Specialists.

Mounted Patrol Unit

The Mounted Patrol Unit (MPU) was established in January of 2010 as an operational police unit.  The officers receive a Basic Equitation riding course from the Toronto Police Service where they are educated on horsemanship, riding skills and roadwork.
