Hamilton Police investigated a fail to remain collision and learned the suspect driver was a 14-year-old female. She was arrested a short time after the accident and has been criminally charged. Hamilton Police would like to thank the community for their assistance in this investigation. Their involvement directly resulted in a positive outcome.

On Tuesday, July 30, 2019, shortly before 8: 00 a.m., Hamilton Police were dispatched to a fail to remain motor vehicle collision. It involved a red Ford Explorer striking a post off the roadway near the intersection of Stonechurch Road East and Upper Wentworth Street. At roughly the same time police received information about three young females occupying the same vehicle in a nearby neighbourhood and the vehicle was suspected to have been stolen.

Prior to police arrival at the scene, additional information was provided to police advising the three female occupants of the vehicle fled to a nearby townhouse complex. Their description was also provided. The females had spilt up; some had changed their clothing in an attempt to evade police but were located in the area and arrested.

Through investigation, police were able to establish the females’ involvement in the incident and who was operating the vehicle at the time of the collision.

The females were taken into police custody where their identity was confirmed as all being 14-years-of-age. Their parents were contacted and the two females who were passengers in the vehicle were released unconditionally.

The driver was released to the custody of her parents and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, September 6, 2019, to answer to the charges of theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property under $5000.

The registered owner of the Explorer was contacted and made aware of the vehicle’s status.

Hamilton Police would like to thank the community for their assistance in this investigation. Their involvement directly resulted in a positive outcome.
