25-Year-Old Hamilton Man Arrested for Shooting at Mountain Townhouse Complex

Hamilton Police arrest a 25-year-old man of Hamilton, responsible for a shooting that occurred on Hamilton’s Mountain in July 2022.

On Thursday, July 21, 2022, at approximately 9:25 p.m. police responded to a townhouse complex in the area of Upper Paradise Road and Garth Street for a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers located a, 27-year-old man, with significant gunshot injuries.

The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Police believed the shooting to be a targeted incident.

Through investigation, police identified the shooter as, 25-year-old, Abakar Bechir of Hamilton. It was learned that Bechir had left the province and a warrant was put out for his arrest.

On August 14, 2022, Bechir was arrested by members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, while exiting a plane at the Edmonton Airport.

Bechir was transported back to Hamilton and will appear in court today.

Bechir has been charged with, Attempt Murder While Using a Firearm and Fail to Comply Release Order X2.

To date, the victim remains in critical condition.
