Arrest Made in Relation to School Threat

Hamilton Police have arrested a 17-year-old male after a school was put into hold and secure.

On Friday, October 21, 2022, shortly before 10:00 a.m., Hamilton Police entered into an investigation after receiving reports that a student at Westdale Secondary School received threats involving a firearm.

Westdale Secondary School and schools in the area went into hold and secure until 12:00 p.m., at which point police brought the incident to a safe resolution.

Hamilton Police have arrested a 17-year-old male and currently the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. Police continue to work on confirming the existence of a firearm.

Hamilton Police recognize the importance of school safety and how a threat of this nature can be difficult for students, staff and their families. Police take incidents like these extremely seriously and will continue to work closely with the school boards to help identify the individuals responsible and lay the appropriate criminal charges where a suspect(s) is identified.
