Arrests Made in Daytime Assault of Student

The Hamilton Police Service has arrested four youths in relation to an assault near Bishop Tonnos School. Several other students involved were also identified and that information has been turned over to school administrators.

On Thursday, January 16, 2020, shortly before 11:30 a.m., a large disturbance involving multiple students from St. Thomas More and Bishop Tonnos Schools, occurred at a plaza located in the area of Pannabaker Drive and Garner Road West, Ancaster. During the incident, a 15-year-old male student of Bishop Tonnos School was assaulted and received minor injuries. The incident was captured on video.

Later that evening Hamilton Police were made aware of the incident and opened an investigation. Police have learned that approximately 20 students from St. Thomas More were in attendance at the time of the disturbance.

Through continued investigation and with the assistance of school administrators, four youths were arrested for their involvement in the disturbance. Additional students also were identified as being indirectly involved and that information was passed on to the school administrations.

Between Tuesday, January 21 and Saturday, January 25, 2020, the four males were arrested at the Hamilton Police Mountain Division. At this time the investigation has been turned over the Youth Office for a Diversion Program related to the offence of assault.
