When Hamilton Paramedic Service attended, they took over the treatment and transported the victim to hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. She is currently still unconscious and is listed in stable condition. The male on scene was initially detained but was released after being interviewed by detectives.
The suspect is described as male, white, short dark hair buzzed or combed back, early 30s, shirtless, medium build, clean shaven with some stubble.
Police are continuing a canvass of the area for surveillance footage and are asking anyone who was in the Corktown Park to James Street South area around the time, and who may have witnessed something relevant, to call.
The male captured in the image below is a person of interest whom police are looking to identify and interview. Anyone who knows this individual is asked to contact police.
