Culprits Targeted Wrong Address in Stevens Homicide

Hamilton Police are releasing video and photos of a vehicle associated with the murder of David Stevens on January 29, 2020.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, detectives from the Major Crime Unit now believe that the individuals responsible targeted the wrong address and David was not their intended victim.

As a result of witness statements, surveillance footage from the area, forensic examination of the scene and other evidence, police are releasing video and a photo of the get-away car. This vehicle is a four-door 2015 or older Chevrolet Cruze, silver or grey in colour, with no sunroof. It was last seen travelling southbound on Birch Ave and turning eastbound on Wilson Street just after 11:35 p.m. on January 29.

There were three male suspects, all wearing dark clothing. One male was described as being black while the ethnicity of the other two males was not identifiable.

The fact that David was not the intended victim makes his murder even more senseless. It is believed only one firearm was used during this incident and it has not been recovered. Investigators are confident the identity of the three suspects will be uncovered and are recommending the three males responsible, particularly the two non-shooters, seek legal advice and turn themselves in to police to explain how an innocent man became a murder victim.
