Cyclist Loses Control and Suffers Serious Head Injury

Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a collision with a cyclist after the victim collided with a fence barrier while trying to stop her bike. The cyclist remains in hospital in serious condition.

On Wednesday, Sept 19, 2018, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a female cyclist was riding at a high rate of speed northbound on John Street on the west sidewalk. The cyclist crossed from the southwest corner to the northwest corner via the crosswalk at Charlton Avenue on a green light. As she crossed, she became aware of a pedestrian standing on the northwest corner waiting to cross John Street. In an attempt to avoid a collision with the pedestrian, the female rider lost control of her bicycle and collided with a low standing block wall and wrought iron fence.

Unfortunately, the cyclist was not wearing a helmet and suffered life-threatening injuries. She remains in the hospital in serious condition.

Due to the injuries sustained, the Collision Reconstruction Unit is conducting the investigation. Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to call (905) 546-4753 or (905) 546-4755.
