Diane has been missing from the family home since October 28, 2002. Ms. Yates struggled with debilitating mental health issues for most of her adult life. On October 28, 2002, a tourist located Ms. Yates glasses and purse by the edge of the Niagara River that flows into Niagara Falls. Ms. Yates had travelled to Niagara Falls earlier that month with the intention of jumping but never followed through. It is believed that Ms. Yates committed suicide on October 28, 2002 but her body has never been located.

Diane is described as a white female, 5’2” (157 cm), and 106 lbs (48 kg)
