Driver Seriously Injured in Downtown Collision

A downtown collision sends a 31-year-old Hamilton man to hospital with serious injuries.

On Monday, April 25, 2022, shortly after 9 :00 a.m., a 51-year-old Hamilton man was operating a 2021 Peterbuilt transport truck towing a trailer northbound on Dundurn Street South, towards the intersection of King Street West. This intersection is controlled by a traffic light.  The driver began to conduct a left turn to proceed westbound on King Street West.

At the same time, a 31-year-old Hamilton man was operating a 2017 Acura sedan southbound on Dundurn Street North and proceeded into the intersection.  The front of the Acura and the front passenger corner of the Peterbuilt collided and came to rest just west of the intersection. 

The 31-year-old driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to hospital with serious injuries.  A 12-year-old passenger who was in the Acura was taken to hospital with minor injuries.  

The 51-year-old driver was not taken to hospital and has provided a statement to police. 

The Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.  Investigators have not been able to rule out any contributing factors.

The intersection was closed for approximately 8 hours for the investigation and subsequent road maintenance.
