Expired Val Tag Leads to Drug Dealer Arrest

While on proactive patrol, police observed an expired validation tag on a Dodge Caravan. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of a drug dealer and the seizure of illicit drugs, money and a bb gun. Many times, inquiries made by police into traffic violations lead to criminal investigations.

On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, shortly after 3:30 a.m. police were in the area of Melvin Avenue and Adeline Avenue on proactive patrol. At that time a 2007 Silver Dodge Caravan was observed with an expired validation sticker. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver produced an Ontario driver's licence. The driver then proceeded to drive off southbound on Adeline. Once he realized Adeline was a dead end roadway he abandoned the vehicle and continued on foot. Police pursued the male and observed him discard a red bag behind a garage on Adeline Avenue. A short time later the male was arrested. In the meantime a female passenger from the Caravan was detained and through investigation, police learned she was in possession of drug paraphernalia and the presence of Cannabis existed in the vehicle’s cabin. The paraphernalia was seized by police for destruction and the Cannabis held for evidence. The female was released unconditionally.

The Ontario Driver’s licence surrendered by the male driver was examined and police determined it did not belong to him. Through investigation, police were able to identify the driver and confirm he was bound by a Probation Order and was driving while under suspension.

The discarded bag was recovered and searched. The contents included a black pellet gun, crystal meth, blue heroin, heroin/fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.

The male appeared in court on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, to answer to several charges.
