Expired Vehicle Tag Leads Police to 2.4 kilograms of Marijuana

Hamilton Police Service uncovered 2.4 kilograms of Marijuana during a routine traffic stop with an approximate street value of $25,000.

On January 4, 2018 at 11:15 p.m., an officer noticed a black Honda travelling northbound on Wentworth Street North near Burton Street in Hamilton. The driver was operating the vehicle with an expired valtag. The vehicle was pulled over and 2.4 kilograms of marijuana was found inside, as well as 52 grams of marijuana resin along with other paraphernalia.

The estimated street value is $25,000. This amount of marijuana would be equivalent to 5,000 joints at $5 a joint.

Zachary Thomson (26 years) Smithville has been charged with:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Marijuana and Resin x 2
  • Proceeds of Crime under $5,000

Thomson will be returning back to the John Sopkina Courthouse on January 24, 2018.
