Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision on Garth Street, Hamilton

Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision in Hamilton involving a motorcycle and van.

On Thursday, June 14, 2018, at approximately 1:45 p.m., police, fire and paramedics responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision between a motorcycle and a cargo van on Garth Street at Madonna Drive, Hamilton.

Information indicated that a 30-year-old Hamilton man was operating the motorcycle and travelling southbound on Garth Street from the area of Rymal Road west, at a rate of speed higher than the posted 50/kmhr speed limit. A 39-year-old Hamilton man was operating a cargo van which was travelling northbound on Garth Street. The van began to conduct a left turn onto Madonna Drive when it was struck by the motorcycle.

Witnesses to the collision provided medical assistance to the motorcyclist before he was transported to hospital by Paramedics. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the cargo van remained on scene and is cooperated with the investigation.

This investigation will continue under the care of the Collision Reconstruction Unit of the Hamilton Police Service. Witnesses to the collision and events prior to the collision are being asked to contact the investigators at (905) 546-4753 or (905) 546-4755.

This is now the 8th fatal motor vehicle collision for the City in 2018.
