Fraudster Caught Passing Phony Cheque

A Hamilton man will appear in court later today after employees at a local Cash Money Store recognized he was attempting to cash a fraudulent cheque for the second time.

On Monday, June 10, 2019, shortly before 6:30 p.m., Hamilton Police received information about a fraud in progress at the Cash Money Store located in the area of Queenston Road and Greenford Drive. Staff believed a male customer was attempting to cash a fraudulent cheque. They recognized him from a previous incident at another store where on June 8, 2019; he was successful in cashing a similar cheque which was later proven to be fraudulent.

When police arrived they located the male suspect inside the store. He was arrested without incident.

The copies of the cheques, both valued at $2515.00 were seized as evidence and the male was taken into police custody. An investigation into his identity revealed he was bond by two probations orders. His arrest signified a violation of those orders.

The male is scheduled to appear in court today to answer to the charges.
