Hamilton Man Arrested for Theft from Victim’s Porch

A 40-year-old Hamilton man will appear in court today after being arrested for the theft of a delivered residential parcel. Hamilton Police are also providing tips to help deter this type of crime.

On Thursday, March 26, 2020, shortly after 11:00 a.m., a packaged was delivered to a residence in the area of Holton Avenue and King Street East. A short time later, a male attended the residence and removed the package from the property. With the assistance of video surveillance, investigators were able to identify a local male as the suspect.

On Monday, April 6, 2020, police located the male and he was arrested without incident. The package was not recovered. The male is scheduled to appear in court later today to answer to several criminal charges.

  • Theft under $5000
  • Possession under $5000

Here are some preventative measures that can assist with deterring theft:

  • Have your package delivered to your work, friend or relative’s home
  • Have your package held at your local post office for pickup
  • Request a confirmation signature be obtained upon delivery
  • Request the package be left in a special area at the residence out of plain view
