Hamilton Man Charged with Mischief Endangering Life

On November 13, 2018, shortly after 2:30 p.m., police attended a duplex on Cannon Street East, Hamilton, to assist fire with reports of a strong gasoline smell inside. Police investigated the scene and found evidence of puddled gasoline on an apartment floor and threats made by a resident to other tenants. A 36-year-old male has been arrested and charged with Mischief Endangering Life.

A resident living in a duplex on Cannon Street East called fire and police shortly after 2:00 p.m. when a strong smell of gasoline was detected inside their building. Fire confirmed the gasoline odour was coming from inside the duplex. During the building evacuation, a male living inside one of the apartments refused to leave and locked himself inside. Fire gained access and found the male had exited from a rear door. Inside the apartment was evidence of puddled gasoline on the floor and walls. That same male had been involved in an earlier argument with another tenant and made threats to burn down the building.

The male was located standing outside the residence and placed under arrest.

Keith Overhold, 36-years-old from Hamilton was charged with:

  • Mischief Endangering Life x 6
  • Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm x 6
