Hamilton Police Charge Driver in Collision

Hamilton Police have charged an 86-year-old Hamilton man after a vehicle mounted the sidewalk and struck an individual seated on a bus stop bench.

On Friday, April 14, 2023, shortly after 5:00p.m., a Ford Mustang was eastbound on Main Street East. Immediately after exiting the intersection with James Street South the Mustang veered to its right and mounted the sidewalk.  The Mustang struck multiple fixed objects before striking a bus stop bench with bystanders.  The vehicle came to rest when it crashed into a concrete light standard, knocking it down. 

A male bystander who was seated on the bench suffered serious injuries to his lower leg and was transported to hospital.  His medical status was later upgraded to serious but stable condition.  The other bystander reportedly escaped injury.

The 86-year-old male driver of the Mustang was uninjured. 

Hamilton Police has concluded its investigation into the collision and have charged an 86 year old Hamilton man with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm under the Highway Traffic Act.
