Hamilton Police Investigate 15th Traffic Fatality of 2020

A driver involved in a collision in late December has succumbed to his injuries. Detectives from the Collison Reconstruction Unit have determined no charges will be laid.

On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Hamilton Police and Emergency Service partners responded to the intersection of Upper Wentworth Street and Mohawk Road East for a two-vehicle collision. As a result of the collision, a 90-year-old male driver was transported to the hospital with injuries which were at the time, believed to minor in nature. While receiving medical treatment at the hospital it was discovered the male was also suffering from internal injuries and was admitted.

On Thursday, January 20, 2021, Hamilton Police received notice advising the male had succumbed to his injuries.

Upon receiving the information about the driver’s death, the Collision Reconstruction Unit took over the investigation. The investigation has been completed and detectives have determined criminal charges are not warranted.

This marks the 15th traffic fatality for 2020. The year included the following deaths:

  • Six Drivers
  • Four Passengers
  • Five Pedestrians
