Hamilton Police Recover a Loaded Firearm after a Foot Chase in Hess Village

Hamilton Police investigate a patron of Hess Village after receiving information he was seen with a handgun. The suspect initiated a foot chase through an alleyway before being captured by police. A 24-year-old Toronto man was arrested and police have located a discarded loaded handgun. He is scheduled to appear in court today to answer to several criminal offences.

On Monday, June 12, 2018, shortly before 1:30 a m., Hamilton Police received information regarding a disturbance which took place in the area of George Street and Hess Street involving a male with a handgun. The suspect had left the scene prior to police arrival but was located in a nearby convenience store. As police approached he threw a bottle at an officer in an attempt to escape. The suspect then initiated a foot chase through an alleyway where police successfully deployed a Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW), ensuring his capture.

The area was secured by police as a search was conducted. A loaded handgun was located along the path taken by the suspect.

A 24-year-old Toronto man was transported to hospital for the removal of the CEW prongs and will appear in court on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, to answer to several firearm offences.

Although incidents of this nature have a high propensity for serious injury, police were able to safely conclude the matter without injury to anyone.
