Hamilton Police Respond to Workplace Accidents

On Tuesday, January 1, 2019, shortly after 4:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a workplace accident at ArcelorMittal Dofasco, 1505 Kenilworth Avenue North, Hamilton. Information provided to police states a 3rd party contractor was driving a dump style machine when it was involved in a collision and toppled over. The driver, a 23-year-old Hamilton man was extricated from the machine and transported the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The Ministry of Labour was contacted and subsequently attended. The machinery involved was transported to another location for further investigation.

During the incident, a diesel spill occurred. Dofacso took steps to secure the spill. The Ministry of Environment was notified; however, they did not attend.

On Wednesday, January 2, 2019, shortly after 2:30 a.m., Hamilton Police attended Dofasco at 1495 Burlington Street for a motor vehicle collision. During the process of moving the machinery described above an employee who was operating a truck used to assist, tipped over. The driver, a 26-year-old female from Hamilton was transported to hospital for medical assessment. Her injuries are not considered to be serious.

The Ministry of Labour was contacted and subsequently attended. They continue to investigate both incidents.
