Hamilton Police Services Board Appoints New Deputy Chief and CAO

Today at Central Police Station, Hamilton Police Services Board Chair Lloyd Ferguson announced the appointment of Anna Filice as the service’s new Chief Administrative Officer and Toronto Police Service Staff Superintendent Frank Bergen as the new Deputy Chief of Police.

“This is an exciting day for our service and concludes a long search for the right candidates who will fulfill our mission to serve and protect in partnership with our communities,” said Chair Ferguson. “These are two individuals whose leadership will inspire the trust and confidence in our service.”

The Chief Administrative Officer position is a first for Hamilton Police Service and will oversee the overall management and efficient operation of corporate services such as human resources and computer services. Filice assumes the role after serving as Director, HR Systems & Operations at the City of Hamilton. She is an accomplished human resources leader with proven success in organizational development and change management.

Bergen fills the Deputy Chief – Field Support position that has been vacant since March 2017. Bergen is a longtime Hamilton resident and a 35-year member from Toronto Police Service. He has diverse experience within the Toronto Police Service and has worked in community mobilization, court services and strategy management. He has focused on developing internal and external relationships to improve the quality of life and safety for all citizens within Toronto’s neighbourhoods.

“Anna and Frank will complete our Command team. Their tremendous experience and skillsets will be great assets as we begin developing our 2019-2021 business plan,” said Chief Eric Girt. “We look forward to welcoming them to Hamilton Police Service and seeing the contributions they’ll make within our community.”

Filice and Bergen officially begin their new positions on April 30, 2018.

The Hamilton Police Service Board is the civilian body responsible for governing the Hamilton Police Service. It works with the Chief to assure a strong and clear commitment to the provision of a responsive police service to Hamilton’s over 500,000 residents.
