Home Security Tips For Spring Time Safety

As temperatures rise in the spring, incidents of break and enters can also rise across the city. However, a few simple steps can go prevent the rise in crime. Often thieves are simply looking for a crime of opportunity or an easy mark. Although there is no sure fire way to predict or prevent these crimes from occurring there are ways that we can work together to deter or prevent them.

The Hamilton Police Service is committed to working with our citizens to keep our communities safe. Please see the below strategies to protect yourself from becoming a victim of thefts from vehicle and residential garage entries.

  1. Keep your car doors, house doors, windows and garage doors locked
  2. Remove all valuables from your car
  3. Remove your garage door opener from your car
  4. Do not leave keys in your vehicle or in your garage
  5. Keep vehicle windows rolled up
  6. Do not leave your keys hanging in the open near your garage
  7. Call 911 to report any suspicious activity or crimes in progress

Additional crime prevention tips can be found on our website: https://hamiltonpolice.on.ca/prevention
