Investigation into Cyclist Reveals Several Arrest Warrants

Hamilton Police continue to work towards a safer community by responding to calls for service, taking advantage of educational moments with the public and conducting proactive patrol. Yesterday morning between calls, officers found time to conduct proactive patrol in the in an east end neighbourhood. Police spotted a cyclist fail to stop for a stop sign. Investigation of the cyclist revealed the existence of several outstanding warrants dating back to 2017. The cyclist was arrested and will appear in court today to answer to the charges.

On Wednesday, January 2, 2019, shortly after 8:00 a.m., police were conducting proactive patrol when a cyclist was observed travelling through the intersection of Beach Road and Avondale Street without any attempting to stop. The cyclist disobeyed the stop sign on Avondale Street and proceeded to turn west on Beach Road.

A traffic stop was conducted at Beach Road and Gage Avenue North. The female cyclist verbal identified herself; however, police believed she was providing false information. She attempted to leave and was arrested.

Once police confirmed her true identity, they learned five warrants of arrest for the cyclist were in existence, dated back to 2017. She was taken into custody and will appear in bail court today to answer to the charges.
