Loss Prevention Officer Assaulted While Making an Arrest

A Hamilton citizen has assisted police with the arrest of a male who had assaulted a Loss Prevention Officer. The victim did not require medical treatment. The arrested party has been charged with assault with a weapon and three counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

On Thursday, October 25, 2018, shortly after 5:00 p.m. a female was observed acting suspiciously while walking around the Walmart Department store located at 1115 Barton Street East, Hamilton. As the female exited the store she was approached by Loss Prevention Officers. In an attempt to flee she called out to an unidentified male who was nearby. The male confronted the Loss Prevention Officers and slashed one of the Officers with a knife. The female and male split up and fled the scene on foot. Police pursued the armed male and deployed a Conductive Energy Weapon to safely make an arrest. During the pursuit, a citizen observed the suspect running and temporarily detained the male. This ultimately assisted in the eventual arrest.

The male appeared in court on Friday, October 26, 2018, to answer to several criminal charges.
