Michigan Man Charged after Five-Car Collision on LINC

On November 21, 2018, shortly before 9:00 a.m., police attended the area of the Lincoln Alexander Parkway (LINC), for a five-car collision. The vehicles were all travelling westbound in the passing lane between Garth Street and Mohawk Road West when they were suddenly hit from behind. A white pick-up truck driven by a Michigan resident caused the impact, sending vehicles and debris all over the roadway.

Hamilton Police closed the westbound lanes on the LINC for several hours to investigate the five-car collision. The investigation determined the driver of the F350 pick-up truck was travelling home to Michigan for the holidays when he fell asleep and crashed into the rear of the white Santa Fe travelling ahead. The forceful impact caused a chain reaction with three other cars travelling in the same direction.

A 61-year-old male driver from Welland received the initial impact and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and a 44-year-old Hamilton man driving a blue Mini Cooper was transported to hospital with less serious injuries.

The sequence of the collision was captured on the rear dash camera of the fifth car involved. The video has been uploaded for viewing.
