Online Dating Harassment Leads to Criminal Charges

Hamilton Police encourage anyone participating in online dating sites to exercise caution when sharing personal information.

On February 20, 2018 a Port Elgin man was arrested by Hamilton Police and charged with Extortion and Criminal Harassment towards a Hamilton woman after an extensive investigation. As a result of that investigation a second victim was identified and the same male has now been arrested by Hamilton Police for Extortion and Criminal Harassment towards a Kitchener woman. Police believe there is a potential for victims who have not come forward and are asking they contact police for assistance.

The victim and Port Elgin man originally met on-line in 2012. Between 2014 and 2018 the male sent over one hundred text messages to the victim. He used an alias and hid behind his computer, continually harassing the female. As time went on he further extorted the victim by threatening to send her private and personal information to her family for his own personal gain.

On Friday, June 1, 2018, Hamilton Police Detectives with the assistance of the Saugeen Shores Police Department arrested George Condy 46-years-of-age from Port Elgin, Ontario.

He has been charged with Criminal Harassment and Extortion and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, June 22, 2018, to answer to the charges.

Police believe there are more victims who have been harassed by this male but have yet to come forward. If you are a victim or have any further information please call Detective Chambers or Detective Constable Mendes at (905) 546-3817.
