Operation Lookout Nabs Drug Dealers

A concerned citizen contacted police regarding a possibly impaired driver after observing occupants in a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol. Police investigated the call and arrested three parties with outstanding immigration warrants. Further investigation revealed the parties were in possession of illegal drugs.

Last year, Operation Lookout accounted for 33% of Impaired Driver arrests in Hamilton. Operation Lookout has been in place for close to 20 years. It is a strong Impaired Driving Campaign which promotes citizens to contact police when they believe they are observing an impaired driver.

On Thursday May 17, 2018 shortly before 2:00a.m., a citizen contacted Hamilton Police through Operation Lookout to advise they had concerns about impairment after viewing a driver with an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Police located the vehicle in the McDonalds Restaurant parking lot at 21 Upper Centennial Parkway.

Police investigated the occupants and learned an outstanding Immigration Warrant existed for the driver as well as the two passengers. While interacting with the occupants, police detected the odour of fresh marijuana emanating from the cabin of the vehicle and observed a small quantity of marijuana in plain view.

All three parties were arrested for being in possession of marijuana. They were taken into police custody where the investigation continued.

The male occupant (44-year-of-age) will appear in court today to answer to the charges of Possession of a Controlled Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking (Marijuana) and Possession of Proceeds of Crime.

The two female occupants (24 & 25-years-of-age) will be in court on Wednesday June 27, 2018, to answer to the charges of Possession of a Controlled Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking (Marijuana).

Police have also seized approximately 720 grams of marijuana, 84 grams of hash, several cellular phones and an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency as evidence.

Investigation continues surrounding the Immigration Warrants.
