Overnight Fire on Commercial Property

Early this morning, Hamilton Police responded to a working fire on a property located in the area Wentworth Street North and Burlington Street East. The fire was extinguished by the Hamilton Fire Department and one dog did not survive the incident.

On Wednesday, May 13, 2020, shortly before 1: 00 a.m. Hamilton Police responded to 468 Wentworth Street North to assist The Hamilton Fire Department with a working fire involving sea containers. The fire was eventually extinguished and three people were assessed at the scene and did not require medical treatment. One dog did not survive the fire.

While on scene, officers observed signs of people occupying some of the containers.

At this time, police do not believe this was a case of arson.

On April 16, 2020, Hamilton Police executed a search warrant at the same address. This led to an additional investigation by City Bylaw where charges were laid.
