Police Investigate Suspicious Package at Local Mall

Hamilton Police responded to the parking lot area of 1187 Barton Street East, Hamilton for a suspicious package. After a thorough investigation, the package was deemed to be safe. No person was injured during the incident.

On Tuesday, April 23, 2019, shortly before 9:00 a.m., Hamilton Police responded for a suspicious package in the area of 1187 Barton Street East. Local businesses were evacuated and Barton Street between Ottawa Street North and Kenilworth Avenue North was closed as a safety precaution during the investigation.

The package was discovered by a member of the public who thought it appeared to be suspicious in nature and contacted police.

Uniform patrol officers, the Emergency Response Unit and K9 officers attended and through investigation determined the item was not dangerous to the public and it was rendered safe shortly after 12:00 p.m.

The investigation has been concluded and police have established no local businesses were targeted nor were any threats received in relation to this incident.

Local businesses and the roadway returned to regular operations.
