Police Investigate the City’s 12th Traffic Fatality for 2020

A 23-year-old passenger in a two-vehicle collision has succumbed to her injuries. The investigation has been taken over by the Collison Reconstruction Unit.

On Friday, October 2, 2020, shortly before 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Police and Emergency Services partners responded for a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Upper James Street and Rymal Road. Once one scene, police learned a Honda Odyssey minivan was travelling southbound on Upper James at the same time a Ford Focus sedan was travelling northbound on the same roadway. The vehicles collided which resulted in the two occupants within the Focus being transported to the hospital for further medical treatment.

The 18-year-old male driver from Hamilton, who was operating the Odyssey did not require medical treatment. He was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Left Turn - Fail to Afford Opportunity to Avoid a Collision.

The 26-year-old male driver from Cambridge, who was operating the Focus continues to recover from his injuries.

On Tuesday, October 6, 2020, the Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit received notification advising the 23-year-old female passenger from Cambridge, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

As a result of the fatality, the Collison Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision or anyone who has dash-cam footage and has yet to speak with police, to come forward.

Out of respect for the family, police are not releasing the identity of the female at this time.

This is the city’s 12th traffic fatality for the year.
