Police Investigate the City’s Seventh Traffic Fatality of 2021

Hamilton Police continue to investigate a fatal single-motor vehicle collision that occurred over the weekend.

On Saturday, July 10, 2021, shortly before 10:30 p.m., a 57-year-old male from Emsdale Ontario was operating his 2005 Dodge Caravan eastbound on Regional Road 97, approaching Hwy 6, in the City of Hamilton. The vehicle left the roadway, rolled over and ignited as it came to rest. Witnesses called 9-1-1 and Hamilton Police and emergency service partners responded. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit was called in and has carriage of the investigation.

Both directions of Regional Road 97 were closed as the scene was processed, they have since re-opened.

The investigation is ongoing and driver impairment has not been ruled out. Investigators have established that speed is a contributing factor.

A postmortem is scheduled for later today in Toronto.
