Police Investigating Downtown Traffic Fatality

Hamilton Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.

On Saturday, January 9, 2021, shortly after 6:00 p.m., an 80-year-old Hamilton man was crossing without the right of way at a crosswalk at Main Street East and Tisdale Street South. At that time, he was struck by a Hyundai sedan that was travelling eastbound on Main Street. A 29-year-old Hamilton man was operating the vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and continues to cooperate with investigators.

The Hamilton Police Traffic Safety Unit & emergency service partners responded to the scene. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation.

Speed, impairment, and distraction have been ruled out in relation to the driver.
