Police Seize Weapons that Mimic Firearms

Hamilton Police seize a flare gun and air soft pistol after investigating incidents at a east area residence and central mountain restaurant. Police often encounter items such as these which closely resemble the real version and until examined are considered being such. Depending on circumstances, including the appearance of the potential weapon and the way it is used, police may lay criminal charges.

April 21, 2018

On Tuesday April 24, 2018 shortly after 10:00a.m., Hamilton Police received information about a disturbance occurring at a residence in the area of Barton Street East and Cavell Avenue, Hamilton. Upon arrival, police observed a male demanding entry into the residence. Defying police instruction, the male ran off discarding a weapon. After a short pursuit the male was apprehended along with the weapon. Further investigation revealed the male was in possession of two grams of marijuana

The weapon has been identified as a black painted flare gun. It has been seized for further investigation.

A 21 year old Hamilton man is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday April 25, 2018.

Charges:

  • Possession of Controlled Drug and Substances – Marijuana
  • Fail to Comply Probation – Possession of a Weapon X2
  • Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm

April 25, 2018

On Wednesday April 25, 2018, shortly after midnight, Hamilton Police received information about a male at a restaurant in the area of Upper Ottawa Street and Stone Church Road East, who was in possession of a weapon. Police attended the restaurant, identified the male and safely arrested him in a motor vehicle, in the parking lot. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a firearm which was proven to a black air soft pistol with a light attached to the barrel. Further investigation revealed the male was in possession of 7.5 grams of marijuana.

The 21-year-old Hamilton man was released on an Appearance Notice with a future court date.

  • Possession of Controlled Drug and Substances – Marijuana.
